From Los Angeles to the California of Europe

[caption id="attachment_2337" align="alignright" width="300"] Audi Prologue Concept[/caption] Motoring enthusiasts on the Costa del Sol thinking about expanding their supercar collection in 2015 were given a fascinating insight into new models that will be powering into the showrooms next year, at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. Many of the stunning models unveiled at the show, which continues until Sunday, would be just at home on the streets of Marbella – often described as the California of Europe – as Los Angeles’ roads. So with that in mind, and with the next major stop on the global automobile juggernaut the North American Auto Show in “Motor City” Detroit from 12 to 25 January, we chose five of the best from Los Angeles to see out this motoring year. Audi Prologue Concept: Marking a new design era for Audi, the prologue concept launched at the Los Angeles Auto Show is a two-door coupé with a flowing, elegant shape and taut design, and technology that combines power, comfort and efficiency. The 4.0 TFSI produces up to 605PS of power and 750 Nm of torque, accelerating the Audi prologue from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. Its dynamic all-wheel steering, in which the rear wheels can turn up to five degrees, makes it particularly responsive and stable while driving. [caption id="attachment_2339" align="alignright" width="300"] Jaguar F-Type R Coupé[/caption] Jaguar F-Type R Coupé: In the lead up to the Los Angeles show, where Jaguar debuted its new F-Type all-wheel-drive range, the manufacturer carried out a key communications test on the Hakskeen Pan in South Africa’s Northern Cape as part of its partnership with the British world land speed record team. The ultimate aim of The Bloodhound Project is to raise the world land speed record above 1,000mph (1,609 km/h). The current record stands at 763.035mph (1,228 km/h), set by Andy Green in Thrust SSC in 1997. Andy will drive the Bloodhound Supersonic car. The AWD F-Type R Coupé was put through its paces in South Africa by Bloodhound Project director and former world land speed record holder Richard Noble. [caption id="attachment_2343" align="alignleft" width="150"] Bentley Grand Convertible[/caption] Bentley Grand Convertible: Described as the ultimate expression of British automotive luxury, the Bentley Grand Convertible is the most sophisticated open-top car created by Bentley. “Iconic yet understated in style and fashioned entirely by hand”, the car is resplendent in Sequin Blue, originally a bespoke colour created from a single sequin from a customer’s haute couture gown. With 537 PS (530 bhp/395 kW) and 1,100 Nm of torque from Bentley’s 6ø-litre twin-turbo V8 engine of the flagship Mulsanne, the Grand Convertible offers effortless performance as well as sumptuous style. [caption id="attachment_2347" align="alignright" width="150"] Mercedes-Maybach S-Class[/caption] Mercedes-Maybach: The new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, which made its début at Auto Guangzhou and the Los Angeles Auto Show just hours apart, is – at 5,453 millimetres long and with a wheelbase of 3,365 millimetres – the flagship of the Mercedes-Benz model range. Rear passengers benefit from this increased size as well as from standard equipment that includes executive seats on both left and right and other luxury details including innovative voice amplification. In the rear, the Mercedes‑Maybach S-Class is said to be “the world's quietest production saloon car”. [caption id="attachment_2351" align="alignleft" width="150"] Porsche Panamera[/caption] Porsche Panamera: Porsche AG celebrated three world novelties in Los Angeles. These included two new GTS models, the 911 Carrera GTS and Cayenne GTS, and the Panamera Exclusive Series, one of 100 units of the limited special edition of the Panamera Turbo S Executive. The latter (featured here) offers an especially luxurious combination of performance and exclusivity. [caption id="attachment_2333" align="alignright" width="300"] Chic living concept in Puerto Banús[/caption] Of course, a sophisticated supercar needs an elegant and stylish home, like this beautifully presented villa in Puerto Banús. Designed in 1987 by Angel Taborda, an architect renowned for his imaginative and ground-breaking concepts, the property is a bold and impressive alternative to the area’s traditional Andalucian-style architecture. It has undergone a major refurbishment programme to convert it into a house for all-year-round living – and includes garage parking for two cars in addition to four further parking bays.
