Touch of Glamour for “Younger Sibling” of Banús
One of the main objectives in developing Cabopino 40 years ago was to create a “small Puerto Banús”. According to Marga Arévolo (daughter of the seaside urbanisation’s architect, Rafael Arévolo), the idea was to create an alternative area with a traditional marine ambience where people could escape the paparazzi lenses of Banús while still enjoying luxury and exclusivity.
Inspired by her father’s designs for Cabopino four decades ago, the fashion designer has created a new range of luxury handbags. Part of her Magalie121 brand, which is now sold globally in countries from Europe to Asia, as well as in the Middle East, the collection comprises five models (three of them limited edition) in 32 different colours.
Their original style is “highlighted by architectural lines and an air of spontaneity”, featuring straight and abstract angles and quality materials that combine traditional and cutting-edge production processes. Much like Cabopino itself! The collection has been presented around Spain over the past few months at a series of “pop-up” stores (the bags are priced from €500 to €3,000, depending on the model and size).
One of 14 marinas dotted along the Costa del Sol (from east of Málaga to Sotogrande), Puerto Cabopino is located on the main highway between Fuengirola and Marbella. It was built in two phases: the first from 1976 to 1979 (when Marga was born); and the second, from 1983. It currently comprises more than 200 homes (both villas and apartments).
“Puerto Cabopino is the personification of symmetry with an Andalucian spirit,” the designer explained to the press during the collection’s unveiling, “exclusivity without pretension, beauty with practicality… a space where duality reigns”.
She said she wanted to capture the essence of the marina’s excellence and artistry in her new range of bags, named “Marbella”, while also focusing the spotlight on an area, Cabopino, which she believes has not always received the attention it warrants as a pacesetting beachfront project in Marbella. The marina is better known outside the municipality than within its own boundaries, she notes, and is especially popular with Britons and Nordic visitors.

No surprise, therefore, where we centred our own attentions for this week’s featured property. Blessed with a superb frontline setting in Cabopino and offering magnificent sea views (with a private pool and lock-up garage for two cars), this six-bedroom villa is close to the area’s protected nature reserve and just a few minutes walk from the marina’s top amenities, including bars, restaurants and shops.
There is also a project to build three contemporary villas on the existing plot, which – at a price of €1,450,000 – makes the property a great investment (each villa would be valued at between €1.6 million and €2 million).
