Marbella's best beaches
Its time to dig out the sunscreen and flip-flops as warm weather is officially back in Marbella! All beach bars have opened again and shopkeepers along the front are fully stocked with bikinis, buckets and spades, hats, postcards and everything else ready for the holidaymakers they are about to welcome!
Marbella beaches are among the city’s main attractions and are used for much more than simply sunbathing alone. There are 24 different beaches in Marbella, stretching along 27 kilometres of coastline from Calahonda in the east down to the Golden Mile in the centre of Marbella, and many of these have received the sought-after blue flag award.
With so many options to choose from you may not know where to start. Here are some of the most popular beaches and resorts in Marbella:
Luxury beaches
For those looking for the VIP treatment, you could head over to one of the luxurious beach resorts such as Nikki Beach, Ocean Club, Puro Beach and Sala Beach where you can enjoy waiter service all day long while you soak up the sun by the pool, have a relaxing massage or indulging in delicious, modern cuisine. These famous beach clubs are also popular with celebs and play host to fabulous events throughout the summer, with top international acts and DJs as standard. You can also find the most beautiful accessories and beachwear collections for sale at the various designer boutiques located within the beach resorts.
Beaches for families
Marbella is a great holiday destination for families too, though, as the adults are invited to just relax while the children can play. There are lots of
chiringuitos (beachside restaurants) with children’s play areas just outside and several beaches to choose from that have organised activities for the kids, such as:
Funny Beach – Kids love it here, with plenty of fun activities and things to do, including go-karting, water scooters, parasailing, trampolines, banana and paddleboats, waterskiing and lots more. It’s best to get here nice and early if you want a good parking space!
Cable Beach – One of the most famous beaches in Marbella, Cable Beach is a great one for families day or night, with various concerts and activity clubs held here most evenings during the summer. There are also plenty of sun beds available, excellent facilities and a good choice of places to stop for a drink or bite to eat. This beach has also been awarded the Blue Flag for safety and cleanliness by the European Union.
Alicate Beach – This is where you will find Hippopotamus Beach, a child friendly resort that is very popular with families and tends to be busy at weekends with kids enjoying the activities and adults making the most of relaxing. It offers all the amenities you would expect to find at a good family resort beach and provides a great atmosphere for a fun family day out.
Nagüeles Beach – This exclusive area is always immaculately clean and adds a touch of luxury to your family day out thanks in part to a location on the
Golden Mile right next to the glamorous Marbella Club and Puente Romano hotels. The restaurants around here serve exquisite food, and although not cheap they are well worth a visit if you’re up for a treat. There are also plenty of activities such as wind surfing, jet skiing and water skiing on offer.
Quieter Beaches
If vigorous water sports are the last thing on your mind and all you are looking for is somewhere to relax under a palm tree with a good book, you may enjoy the
El Saladillo and
Estepona beaches, as they are known to be two of the quieter ones!
As you can see, whatever you are looking for from your day at the beach,
Marbella has it covered!
