Russian TV premieres in Marbella

Luks Marbella Russian TVAnyone living in Marbella will no doubt have noticed the sizeable number of Russian expatriates arriving here over the past few years. Astute locals will have spotted an increasing amount of roadside adverts in Russian, the new weekly Russian newspaper and heard of Spain’s largest Russian Orthodox Church, which is currently under construction in Marbella. So it will come as no surprise to learn that the first Russian programme on Marbella’s digital TV station M95 was launched this month. According to organisers the premier of Luks Marbella Russian TV was watched online by nearly 7,000 viewers in the first 24 hours, an impressive figure considering it excludes actual TV audience numbers. Luks Marbella Russian TVAt the event hundreds of Russians and Russian speakers joined members of the press for the glitzy launch at La Veranda Verde Restaurant, at the Royal Tennis Club in El Rosario on August 13th. During the press conference, the founder behind Luks Marbella, Marina Nitzak, said that this project was created as a result of the high demand from the Russian speaking community on the Costa del Sol. The programme focuses on the social, cultural and corporate life of the Russian population here in the Marbella area and consists of interviews with key members of the community and events in their every day lives. Luks Marbella Russian TVThe programme will run pilot showson September 9th and 30th and from October it will become a weekly series airing every Monday, with Spanish subtitles set to be added in November. According to Marina there are around 20,000 Russians living on the Costa del Sol and it is predicted this number will double within the next 18 months, as Marbella is the number one tourist destination in Spain for the residents of Moscow and St Petersburg. Luks Marbella is a Russian social club on the Costa del Sol with nearly 1,000 members. The club has become a social, business, artistic and cultural meeting place for Russian speakers in the region and has aided integration with the Spanish population and other nationalities living in the area.
