Retail Therapy in Marbella

Marbella retail therapy shoppingIt’s known as a playground for the rich and famous. So it comes as no surprise that Marbella is also a place to do some serious shopping. For those with a penchant for purchasing the town boasts shops of every conceivable variety that suit all budgets. From the designer jewellery and clothes shops of Puerto Banús, the charming boutique businesses in the Old Town and the multitude of retailers in La Cañada shopping centre, Marbella has it all and more. ‪Most of the high-end shops can be found in Puerto Banús, with names such as Dior, Louis Vuitton, Emporio Armani, Agent Provocateur, Versace and Gucci dotted around the marina. Here you will also find Spain’s leading department store, El Corte Ingles. One of the biggest such stores in the country, there are five floors to lose yourself in should the need arise for some indoor retail therapy. ‪Shopping in Puerto Banus- DiorHeading east along the Golden Mile from here (where you will find a few more eye-wateringly expensive shops) you will come across Marbella’s beautiful Old Town. A haven for small, back street businesses and quirky shops, this is a good spot to pick up some souvenirs. But you will also find a fine selection of independent businesses selling clothes, shoes and jewellery. Shopping here is a pleasure as you make your way around the historic, narrow cobbled streets that are covered in flowers and just ooze charm. But the most popular place to shop in Marbella is arguably the La Cañada shopping centre. Located a short journey north east of the centre of town, it is reportedly the biggest shopping centre in southern Spain. As well as free parking it has everything you might expect from a massive shopping centre including a multitude of restaurants, a cinema, the biggest Apple store in Spain, a children’s park and electronic retailers FNAC. Other big names here include: Adidas, Guess, H&M, Mango, Marks and Spencers, Hollister, Levi and Ted Baker. Also worth a visit is the weekly Saturday market, which can be found at the Plaza de Toros (Bull Ring) in Nueva Andalucía. It’s worth noting that some of the smaller shops, especially in the Old Town, will close for their afternoon siestas between 2pm and 5pm. But the plus side is that most of the shops are then open until 10pm meaning you can shop to your heart’s content.
