Pleasant Easter Days in Europe’s Premier Hotspot

As many people take a well-earned break or holiday getaway this long weekend, it is the ideal time to highlight once again why the Costa del Sol is such a popular destination for both occasional and residential tourists… with our latest good news journal. - Málaga province, which takes in most of the Costa del Sol, is the new number one on The MoveChannel.com’s Hotspots Index, which charts the international property portal’s most searched-for locations. Malaga rose to top sport for the opening quarter of 2017 – the first time Spain had ever ranked number one – with Italy (and most recently Florence) having previously dominated the index. "Spain is undoubtedly the flavour of the month," said TheMoveChannel.com director Dan Johnson. "Searches and enquiries are both at highs not seen for several years, showing that foreign buyers are actively seeking opportunities in Spain and are following through on those searches. Spain's housing market is still not recovering at the same rate across the whole country, but with property values starting to rebound the promise of capital growth and the country's timeless lifestyle appeal mean that Spanish real estate has rarely appeared so attractive." - It’s never been a great secret but a new study has confirmed what many of us already knew: living in Spain is appealingly inexpensive. According to an analysis by SpotaHome of seven European countries (also including France, Ireland, Italy, the UK, Germany and Belgium), the cost of living in Spain is an average €818 a month compared with €920 in the other countries. This overall amount covers five sub-categories: apartment rent, extra costs (including electricity, water and gas), monthly transport voucher, gymnasium subscription, and a pint of beer (or 0.5 litres). As we enjoy the Costa del Sol’s famed spring weather, it is especially comforting to note that Spain is resoundingly in “last place” in the beer sub-category: just €2 compared with the next cheapest average price of €3.50 in Belgium and Austria. - Another study by Post Office Travel Money determined that the Costa del Sol is one of the most affordable resorts in Europe for UK travellers. Researchers checked the cost of a basket of 10 tourist staples – including lunch, evening meals, drinks and sun creams – in 19 European beach destinations. The goods were cheapest in Bulgaria’s Sunny Beach (£37), The Algarve (£58) and the Costa del Sol (£61). Spokesman Andrew Brown advised holidaymakers to do their “homework”, as there were large disparities between similar resorts within the same country. Tourists in Spain, for example, could expect to pay 25 per cent more for everyday items on the Costa Blanca (£76) and 47 per cent more in Mallorca (£89) than on the Costa del Sol. Meanwhile, for holidaymakers thinking about making more permanent plans to stay or live on the Coast, the best “homework” option is to consult a top real estate agency like Villa Marbella Now – and check out such stunning homes as this luxury apartment in Nueva Andalucía, close to the glamour hotspot of Puerto Banús.
