New event replaces Marbella Classic Grand Prix

Organisers of the Marbella Classic Grand Prix have decided not to ahead with the inaugural event this summer. Originally planned for 8 June, the one-day open road race has now been moved to November (on a date to be confirmed). The postponement is said to be “due to a number of technical issues which the organisers are unable to resolve in time and feedback from the classic car community regarding the time of year and the format”. The organisers have announced a different event for 8 June, to “show their commitment to Marbella”. It will be “totally free” to participate in and watch, “a classic car show and demonstration day to allow people to experience how a regularity rally works without having to sign-up for the race. We became aware that the concept of a regularity rally was not fully understood by the local car owners and spectators; therefore this free and fun event will be a great starting point and prepare everyone for the Grand Prix in November.” Classic car owners and the general public are invited at 4pm to gather in Calle Jose Saramago, alongside Plaza Antonio Banderas. Drivers will be presented with a “very simple roadbook” for a five-kilometre route which will start and finish in the square and will be timed according to the principles of the regularity rally; while visitors can enjoy the cars and the summer market in the square.
