Good News… In Spite Of Brexit

After several days of political turmoil, head-scratching and bar-room punditry, we feel it’s time to put Brexit on the backburner and return to a more positive summer vibe. That means it’s Good News Week, when we look at why – irrespective of the referendum’s potential ramifications – there are still many solid and ongoing reasons why the Costa del Sol will remain a highly attractive destination for residential-tourists and holiday homebuyers. - The Junta de Andalucía (regional government) has established a cabinet-level group to evaluate the consequences of Britain’s exit from the European Union and implement measures to limit any adverse results and avoid a “negative” impact on the economy. - During his pre-election appearance on the El Hormiguero TV programme, prime minister Mariano Rajoy said, “Málaga is growing a lot. It has a high level of culture and technology, and it is one of the places with the brightest future in Spain.” - The “Costa del Golf” is starting to regain its global lustre. In April, the Coast hosted the Spanish Open at Valderrama, one of the European Tour’s premier tournaments, and now it has been announced that the Aloha club in Marbella will be the venue for the Ladies European Tour’s Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España from 22 to 25 September. - Latest figures from Spain’s leading appraisal company Tinsa show that the average price of a home in Málaga province (which covers the Costa del Sol) in the second quarter of 2016 rose 5.5 per cent on an inter-annual basis, and 2.2 per cent since the start of the year. Tinsa also noted that a vendor in Málaga takes an average of 9.5 months to find a buyer, compared with 10.5 nationally. - Addressing a seminar in Marbella, the president of the Andalucian Federation of Developers and Residential Tourism, Ricardo Arranz, declared that Spain was the “only safe destination” for the European, Russian and Middle East sector. He said the Costa del Sol offered the three key factors for buying a holiday or second home: climate, security and exemplary infrastructure. For Arranz, developer of the Villa Padierna and Flamingos resort, the 10 best years for the so-called “Golden Triangle” (Marbella, Benahavís and Estepona) are beginning now, demonstrated by the influx of investment funds not only interested in already completed products but also initiatives to develop new projects. - According to newly released figures from Spain’s Ministry of Development, Málaga province ranked third after Madrid and Barcelona last year in the sale of urban land for development: €209 million in total and an average of €254.20 per square metre – 19 per cent higher than 12 months previously. - Servihabitat (La Caixa banking group’s Spanish real estate servicer) paints a picture of “moderate but sustained recovery” in its latest housing market report, including a 10 per cent rise in home sales to 440,000 and a 25 per cent drop in the stock of new homes, to 367,500. Luxury Living Our featured home this week is, appropriately, located in a prime residential estate in Marbella that has weathered the past few years of crisis better than just about any other area on the Coast – and will no doubt also shrug off any Brexit concerns: Sierra Blanca. Priced at an excellent €1,950,000, this apartment combines contemporary design with a natural environment.
