Christmas shopping in Marbella

Xmas PresentDespite a distinct lack of snow forecast for Marbella this month, Christmas is still fast approaching, meaning it’s time to get serious about shopping and start pounding those pavements for presents. But where does everybody go in this Mediterranean metropolis in order to get the best festive gifts for family members? Well, to indulge yourself in retail therapy this December you should start off with La Cañada, the Costa del Sol’s largest shopping centre. Bursting with every conceivable shop known to man, this is a veritable shopper’s paradise. Incidentally, if you’re male there are some rather nice massage chairs to relax in should you lose sight of your wife or girlfriend. Elsewhere in town, you might want to check out the designer boutiques in Puerto Banús for a more extravagant variety of goods. Here you’ll discover reassuringly exclusive brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Chloé, Louis Vuitton, Jimmy Choo and Versace, to name but a few. You’re also a stone’s throw from El Corte Inglés, Spain’s leading department store. In addition, opposite the department store, there is a Christmas market that runs from December 1 to January 6 in the centrally located Plaza Antonio Banderas. The old town of Marbella also merits a visit, as there are dozens of independent shops peppered around the narrow, cobbled streets, which look especially festive this time of year thanks to hundreds of Christmas lights strung overhead. Make sure you are in the old town for Neighbourhood Day on December 21 too, as between 10am and 8.30pm there will be Christmas treats and concerts, with business and shop owners offering free wine tasting and festive food sampling to passers by. Alternatively, head to the Marbella Christmas market at the Puerto Deportivo (Marbella yacht marina) from December 6-9, where you’ll discover arts and crafts, jewellery, ceramics, food, games and much more. So whatever your taste and budget, Marbella offers it all this Christmas - just make sure you leave yourself enough time to fit all these shopping destinations in!
