Take me to Marbella!
They are a trio of pre-teen pop princesses whose first record looks set to become a sensational summer hit.
At just nine years old The Lecheritas have risen to fame after their song ‘Take me to Marbella’ became an overnight success on the Internet. Following its debut on YouTube the video received some 200,000 hits as well as being played several times a day on Spain’s top radio stations. Now Costa del Sol based girls Franciska, Dominique and Angelina have signed their first record deal and are ready to take the airwaves by storm.
In Take me to Marbella the trio are also joined by 16-year-old singer Charlotte Floyer, an up and coming star who adds a soulful voice to the traditionally southern Spanish sounding hit. The song itself is the first release for record label Sala Records, which was founded by Jacob Johansen and the Sala Group Chairman Ian Radford.
The idea behind its creation was to help support and develop the music community of Marbella – something that is already paying dividends if the girls’ success is anything to go by. As for the origins of the song, it was one of the girls’ fathers who dreamt up the idea. Franciscka’s Danish-born dad Jacob noticed his daughter and her two friends playing hand-clapping games in the playground one day and was impressed by the words they were chanting. These provided the inspiration for the tune and later became the first few lines of the catchy song.
As for adding Marbella to the lyrics, he believes the town is a symbol of achievement and ambition. Although
the girls sound Spanish, they all come from international backgrounds – Angelina is Lithuanian and Dominique is English – in itself a good reflection of the Costa del Sol’s international community.
In addition, it certainly helps that Jacob was already a talented composer and producer, yet the accidental hit songwriter is currently penning their second song, keen not to lose the momentum.
