Summer Style… from Beach Chic to Gala Glamour
With the summer festive season now in full flow, the key priority is to step out in style – be it a day at one of Marbella’s ultra-fashionable beach clubs or sipping a glass of champers at a Banús soirée.
Of course, not every woman can permit herself the luxury of a $10 million Victoria’s Secret bra, but one of the sensual pieces from Irina Shayk’s Beach Bunny Swimwear collection is a must for this summer’s fashion wardrobe.
As the World Cup winds down in Brazil, many people will best know the dazzling Russian model as the girlfriend of Portugal and Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, but Shayk has stamped her own mark on the fashion world, especially thanks to her appearances in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue since 2007 (including the 2011 cover).

More recently, the 2004 "Miss Chelyabinsk” beauty contest winner has appeared in several Beach Bunny campaigns, highlighted by her own design collaboration in 2013. She will also soon be seen in Spanish cinemas (5 September) playing the role of Megara, Hercules' wife, in the film "Hercules: The Thracian Wars".
South African model Candice Swanepoel first featured on Victoria Secret’s runway seven years ago, but gained global attention in 2013 when she became the latest “Angel” to model the famous lingerie brand’s Royal Fantasy Bra.
Valued at $10 million and designed exclusively for Victoria’s Secret by jeweller Mouawad, the bra and matching belt are adorned with over 4,200 precious gems from around the world including rubies, diamonds and yellow sapphires. Hand-set in 18-carat gold, the bra also features a 52-carat, pear-shaped centre ruby.
According to Mouawad, a fourth-generation family business that designs, manufactures and sells its own exclusive jewellery and timepieces, its creative team “went all the way back to the 1960s for this dazzling lingerie suite… as a tribute to that colourful, wild and trend-setting sixties when models like Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton and Patty Boyd ruled the runways and dominated the covers of Vogue, Vanity Fair and Harper's Bazaar. “With a warm wink to the Royal Crown Jewels this suite features a dizzying array of exquisite diamonds, rubies and sapphires of patriotic red, white and blue – all handcrafted into an urbane and timelessly chic lingerie suite.”
Previous supermodels who have had the honour of wearing the Fantasy Bra include Heidi Klum (who debuted the initial Mouawad Fantasy Bra in 2001), Tyra Banks, Gisele Bundchen, Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima, Claudia Schiffer… and Miranda Kerr.
The Australian – who married actor Orlando Bloom in 2010 but has since separated – remains one of the highest paid and most in-demand international models, although her increasingly raunchy appearances in the world’s premier fashion (and gossip) magazine pages have been slightly tempered by her more sedate new partnership with the Royal Albert tableware brand – “bringing catwalk glamour to afternoon tea”.
