The organisers are probably becoming a little over-enthusiastic when they describe the Fort Lauderdale International as “the world’s greatest boat show”. Monaco and Cannes, for example, might have something to say about that, and also feel slightly aggrieved at the proud boast that Fort Lauderdale is the “yachting capital of the world”.
Nevertheless, it is true that the Florida event, which begins on 30 October and continues until 3 November, is one of the world’s most spectacular showcases of sportfishers, cruisers, centre consoles, runabouts, flats boats, bowriders, catamarans, ski boats, jet boats, trawlers, inflatables, canoes and superyachts on the global calendar. Extending over nearly 300,000 square metres, the show brings together seven venues with tents full of yacht builders, electronics, engines and accessories.

On the eve of the show, we look at one special featured model for luxury sportfishing that will be unveiled in Fort Lauderdale next week, and admire the sleek lines of a selection of other exceptional superyachts…
Jarrett Bay Sportfisherman: The 77 (right) is the largest build in the Jarrett Bay line so far, and is described as representing the “next best evolution in custom sportfish design”. It possesses a modern, streamlined take on Jarrett Bay’s traditional custom Carolina design – an additional rounded corner radius built into the side and front panels of the cabin and bridge is combined with a sleek profile and rakish front.

Once an order has been put in for one of the boats on show in Florida, it will be time – if you haven’t already take care of it – to find a new home and berth back on the Costa del Sol. Sotogrande is a tranquil haven for inveterate boating enthusiasts, and the penthouse featured here offers amazing views from both sides and overlooking the marina. It is just two minutes from Sotogrande Port and local shops, and is a great setting for entertaining family or friends after a day’s sailing.
