Showpiece Homes, Luxury Living… and Mijas Village
For those of us who have been living on the Costa del Sol for a while, it’s always a pleasant experience to be reminded how lucky we are. Sometimes, after all, there can be tendency to take things for granted when you live in paradise!
Villa Marbella Now’s roving correspondent had one of those immensely satisfying moments this past week, while sitting on the terrace of a rustic chiringuito in a tranquil section of beach on the Cádiz coastline (just one of many convenient and alluring weekend getaway destinations in Andalucía for Costa del Sol residents and visitors).
He was accompanied in his meditations by a dozen or so other clients, sipping beers and chilling out with their dogs as the sun set over the Atlantic. A British couple nearby broke the silence at one stage to inquire where he was from. They had been travelling from France through Spain to Portugal and had stumbled across this idyllic setting while walking along the beach. “Ah, from the Costa del Sol,” they cooed. “We’ve just been there, really loved it, especially that incredible place up on the hill.” They were referring to Mijas Pueblo.
As we have noted here before, Mijas’s iconic village epitomises the kind of Spanish enclave many expatriates dream about when considering settling in Spain or buying a second home. It offers the classic appeal of an easygoing Spanish village with the full gamut of contemporary services and amenities – and all just a few kilometres from the sea, championship golf courses and picturesque inland havens.
Meanwhile, further down the coast in another prime residential area, the first artists for this year’s Starlite Festival in Marbella have been revealed – and it’s quite an impressive line-up. Guitar virtuoso Carlos Santana will be delighting his global legion of fans with a concert on 24 July; while Tom Jones will be returning (he also performed at the festival in 2014) on 1 August. Other dates confirmed are: French crooner Charles Aznavour, 29 July; classical crossover vocal quartet Il Divo, 3 August; and popular Spanish singer Malú, 8 August.
Also returning (9 August) is one of Spain’s most international singer-songwriters, Alejandro Sanz, who described his last appearance in glowing terms: “Starlite is almost an addiction; once you live it you want to come back. The atmosphere is great, the acoustics are extraordinary, you are very close to the audience and the surroundings are amazing.”
This fifth annual edition of the festival – one of Europe’s premier cultural events, which includes a daily schedule of music, fashion, art, film and gastronomy – will run from 14 July to 20 August 20.
Returning to Mijas, if the British couple in Cádiz had been tempted to suspend their travels and set up permanent residence on the Costa del Sol – like so many other compatriots before them – they would have certainly been charmed by the palatial villa featured here. Located in the prestigious Valtocado urbanisation not far from MIjas village, this four-bedroom home offers magnificent views over the Mediterranean and surrounding countryside. Even better, it’s price has been reduced from €3 million to just €1,895,000.
