Celebrating Christmas in Marbella
Although the chances of a white Christmas in
Marbella are slim, the festive lights, decorations and long list of upcoming events will certainly get you in the mood for this special time of year. Chestnut sellers are already out in force heralding the arrival of winter, but it’s not until November 28 that the town really starts getting into the yuletide mood. This is when the Christmas lights are lit, making evenings stolling around the old town and its various squares an enchanting experience. Santa’s Grotto also opens on November 28 in Parque de la Alameda, where
Marbella’s nativity scene will be based. Santa has a post box here so children will be able to write him letters – before enjoying free chocolates and rides in this popular park from 7pm onwards!
Meanwhile, anyone looking for last minute gifts should head to the Puerto Deportivo in
Marbella from December 6-9, for the Christmas Market. Here you can browse an array of arts, crafts, jewellery, ceramics, food, drink, games and much more. However, if you are looking for somewhere to dress up and look glamorous, then why not visit the annual Saint Nicholas Christmas Dinner in aid of
Concordia? It takes place on December 5 at the exclusive Hotel Puente Romano, with all profits going to the charity, which supports patients with HIV. Guaranteed to get you in the mood for Christmas, highlights include mulled wine, a visit from Santa, Christmas gifts, entertainment, a delicious meal and a festive atmosphere.
But if Christmas carols give you that festive feeling, then head down to the delightful Plaza de la Inglesia in
Marbella’s old town on December 12 where local schools will take part in a Spanish Christmas carol contest from 10am to 1.30pm.The Neighbourhood Day also takes place in the historic centre on December 12, from 10am to 8.30pm. This is when businesses and shop owners present tasty treats and delicious drinks to passers by, before the arrival of Santa at 6pm.
Or for something a bit different, you could watch Peter Pan on ice at the
Palacio de Congresos Marbella on January 3. On the other hand, in Málaga there will be a performance of the Nutcracker at the
Cervantes Theatre by the Russian Imperial Ballet on December 17
th and 18
th.
