The World comes to Málaga

The World of Residensea cruise ship In this case The World of Residensea, the super-luxurious cruise ship that docked in Málaga this month and took up prime position at the Palmeral terminal right beside the tree-lined avenue in the heart of this beautiful historic city. Unique in concept, the 45,000-ton World is even more luxurious than most five-star cruise ships, as its passengers are made up not of one-off guests but of owners. Indeed, the world’s most opulent ‘floating apartment building’ features a choice of elegantly finished studios, apartments and super-deluxe suites that range between $600,000 and $13 million. Owners pay an additional $20,000 in maintenance fees per month, but for that have the option of hopping on and off the ship whenever they want. With just 200 guests and 250 staff, this is a floating palace of comfort, luxury and entertainment, including a choice of informal and gourmet restaurants, bars, clubs, cafés, lounge bars, libraries, sun decks, swimming pools, a spa, beauty centre, gym, business centre, cinema, casino, art gallery, lecture room, theatre and even a driving range with instructors to get your game ready before you head off for your next round of golf onshore. There are medical facilities, babysitters, fitness coaches and support staff in the business centre, as well as a helipad for those who like to join the ship in a dramatic manner. Travelling around the world and visiting its most exciting cities and idyllic natural spots, the ship often drops anchor in a beautiful bay, when the floating dock at the stern is opened and guests have the choice of jet skis, powerboats and a host of other nautical toys to take to the water with. The World of Residensea MalagaMálaga is a popular destination for the select group of members that own aboard The World. They can invite guests to stay with them or arrange accommodation for in the special guest cabins, and along with the security and privacy, owning a suite or apartment here also brings membership of some of the world’s most exclusive golf clubs, yachts clubs and private member clubs. On this occasion, the ship and its complement of almost 150 guests spent several days in Málaga before moving on along the Mediterranean, with some 28 guests embarking and 58 leaving the ship no doubt to spend time at their homes in Marbella. It can’t be a bad way of life alternating between The World and the Costa del Sol.
