Puerto Banús, playground of the rich and famous

Puerto Banus, Marbella yachtsIn the heart of the Costa del Sol, right next to Marbella, you will find one of the most exclusive yachting harbours in the world: Puerto Banús. An attractive destination for royalty and the rich and famous, Puerto Banús offers the ultimate VIP lifestyle and has earned a solid reputation in the property market as a desirable place for investors. So what’s all the fuss about? Well, it started back in the 1960s… Madrid-based businessman, José Banús, fell in love with the area after buying some land (now known as Nueva Andalucía) to breed cattle for bullfighting. Around the same time, Marbella was fast becoming more popular as a tourist destination, so José Banús saw this as an opportunity to build an exclusive and luxurious marina where royalty and the jetset could relax away from prying eyes. With the help of the two architects, Noldi Schreck and Marcos Sainz, the port was built and opened in 1970, suitably named Puerto Banús, after José Banús. Since the opening in 1970, the port has seen the arrival of countless luxury yachts belonging to royalty and millionaires looking to enjoy the pleasures of Puerto Banús and Marbella. Very recently, the marina was even home to one of the finest yachts in the world, belonging to a Saudi prince who moored up for a few days before heading to Monte Carlo! The kilometre of sun-kissed beach that surrounds the harbour is a favourite with celebrities on holiday, and they will often be seen enjoying the local champagne bars and VIP lounges after a day of bronzing. Puerto Banus yacht marina, marbella, SpainFor those who enjoy life on the waves, you may like to visit one of the Marina’s various water exhibitions such as the upcoming Puerto Banús Boat Fair, from 28th March – 1st April 2013. The event is well worth a visit and unsurprisingly attracts yacht lovers and buyers from all over the world. It’s not all about the marina though as Puerto Banús is also home to some of Spain’s best golf courses, top class restaurants and an impressive selection of designer boutiques such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Armani. Perfect for those who like a good dose of retail therapy! Top of the range vehicles are standard in Puerto Banús too, and it’s commonplace to see supercars just casually parked or purring past you with the top down. All this combined with year round fine weather explains why it’s no wonder Puerto Banús remains a desirable location – and is certainly the place to be if you love the finer things in life.
