Luxury yachts in Puerto Banús

Yachts Puerto BanúsIf you’ve ever had the opportunity to stroll around the luxurious marina of Puerto Banús, you will no doubt have spotted a number of lavish yachts sitting inconspicuously on the waterside. This collection of floating palaces ranks among some of the most eye-wateringly expensive and impressive yachts the world has ever seen. Spread across 915 berths you can spot a myriad of super yachts, which range from the huge 50-metre long variety to those barely measuring eight metres. The enormous cruisers almost always have a permanent crew who maintain the vessel and keep it ship shape, should the well-heeled owner suddenly descend on the boat and wish to take it out on the high seas. With this in mind, one of the greatest pleasures to be had in Marbella when you are at a loose end is to simply enjoy a cocktail on a warm summer’s evening while sitting at one of the many bars in the marina and engaging in the leisurely sport of boat watching. Among the most ostentatious of these ships, at the far end of the port almost opposite the Black and White Café, is ‘Shaf’.Super Yacht Owned by Prince Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Minister of Defence for Saudi Arabia, there are usually half a dozen tourists loitering here at any one time getting their photo taken in front of this monstrously over-sized boat. Next to the ‘Shaf’, landlubbers will find the ‘Lady Haya’, a 64 metre long boat displacing 1,241-tons, which also belongs to the Saudi Royal Family.  However, if you are looking for true mega yachts of a size almost unfathomable to mere mortals, then look no further than the ‘A’, which was anchored off Puerto Banús at the beginning of the summer. This uber yacht belongs to the Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko and is, wait for it, 120 metres in length and cost a cool 244 million Euros to build. Just filling the vessel up with fuel each time costs a reported 740,000 Euros. Now there’s a sobering thought to remember next time you are filling up your car with petrol in Marbella.
