Eclectic living spaces with a touch of elegance

[caption id="attachment_1133" align="alignright" width="300"] Fendi Casa[/caption] Ever at the forefront of design innovation, Philippe Starck was characteristically passionate about democratic design concepts when he presented his latest collections for TOG at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile. Forget about trends, he declared in Milan: consumers should be given the freedom to create bespoke pieces – quality items but at affordable prices. The charismatic French designer’s philosophy was shared to varying degrees, and in a diverse range of guises, by other exhibitors at the show. The general theme was not so much an advocacy of expensive redecoration plans but rather a showcase of ideas that provide inspiration for giving rooms a new makeover, or technological advances that make life more comfortable. FENDI CASA: For EuroCucina 2014, one of the main associated events at Salone, Fendi Casa Ambiente Cucina presented its new offering in a tailor-made, refined atmosphere, solutions created in collaboration with SCIC and conceived both for private homes and major international contract projects. One of these “timeless products geared towards a clientele that adores the eclectic, always in search of excellence and elegance” is the exclusive Villa Domizia range. The kitchen has clean, geometric shapes, outlined by the cold colours of the varnishes for the base doors and the tall units, while the matching glass top complements the Emperor Dark marble used for the back wall. This compact, functional arrangement features special touches in ice grey galuchat leather for the upholstery of the tall unit modules. [caption id="attachment_1135" align="alignright" width="300"] Moooi[/caption] MOOOI: An assembly of vibrant living quarters and original product displays, blended into the ageless atmospheres of a unique exhibition of photographs by Massimo Listri, Moooi’s exhibition featured “a treasure chest of surprises gathered from all around the five continents and beyond… a hint of richness to a hotel room or elements of mystery and surprise to the everyday comforts of home”. Listri’s photography enveloped and blended into the living quarters, which were furnished with items from the current collection as well as new creations by top designers working with the design company. As Moooi’s art director and co-founder Marcel Wanders explained, “In a world which is dominated by the new, we like to see our works in the context of eternity. Massimo Listri is the closest ambassador of this eternal heritage.” [caption id="attachment_1139" align="alignleft" width="300"] Roche Bobois[/caption] ROCHE BOBOIS: Celebrating its 40th anniversary in Spain this year, Roche Bobois presented a special creation by designer Stephen Burks, a suite setting of two lounge areas and a dining room featuring pieces by various designers who are collaborating with Roche Bobois this season. A centrepiece of the collection was the ACE sofa, while other key pieces included the Nara sofa by Italians Roberto Tapinassi and Maurizio Manzoni, and Fabrice Berrux’s Pixl library. [caption id="attachment_1141" align="alignleft" width="300"] Shigeru Ban[/caption] WHERE ARCHITECTS LIVE: Keen to ensure it was not all business in Milan, the exhibition organisers gave the “Where Architects Live” a starring role. It was, they said, “an opportunity to engage with and reflect on the modes and experiences and the art of inhabiting as evidenced by eight exceptional architects”: Mario Bellini, David Chipperfield, Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas, Zaha Hadid, Marcio Kogan, Daniel Libeskind, Studio Mumbai/Bijoy Jain, and Shigeru Ban (featured here). [caption id="attachment_1035" align="alignright" width="300"] Sophisticated style in La Zagaleta[/caption] After gaining some home decoration inspiration from this year’s Salone in Milan, the next step will be to find a luxury property to put these new ideas and innovations intro practice. Located in one of Europe’s most sophisticated residential developments – La Zagaleta, overlooking Marbella in a picturesque mountain setting – this lavish villa is the perfect place to turn creative dreams into reality.
