Cutting-edge showcase of Italian chic

[caption id="attachment_1037" align="alignright" width="300"] Pininfarina and Rino Snaidero[/caption] The Salone Internazionale del Mobile was inaugurated in 1961 with the aim of promoting Italian furniture and furnishing accessories on the export market. Over the past five decades the Milan exhibition (running from 8 to 13 April) has blossomed into a global benchmark for latest trends in home décor, showcasing a stunningly diverse range of state-of-the-art products in a cross-section of styles – including partnerships that bring together high-end brands from different spheres of the design spectrum. Here, for example, we feature four collaborations inspired by automobile creative concepts. PININFARINA and SNAIDERO: This partnership was forged in 1989 from an encounter between company chairmen Sergio Pininfarina and Rino Snaidero, who shared a passion for beauty and technological innovation. The aim from the start was to combine Pininfarina’s design heritage with Snaidero’s experience in kitchens, and conceive cutting-edge solutions for the domestic space. The Audace version featured here was inspired by the Sergio concept car: a “provocative, futuristic interpretation of modern space”, with the use of red and black colours, and materials such as carbon fibre for the sculpted support of the island worktop, have their roots in the automotive world. [caption id="attachment_1041" align="alignright" width="300"] Maserati by Zanotta[/caption] MASERATI by ZANOTTA: Their collaboration began in 2013 with the Maserati Lounge Chair by Zanotta, also presented at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, and their creative synergy is renewed this year with the Maserati by Zanotta Capsule Collection. Like the Lounge Chair, this new series of exclusive items – the foot-rest for the Grandtour Lounge Chair, the Corina chair and the Maestrale table – feature the prestigious signature of Ludovica+Roberto Palomba, and have been inspired by the style of the iconic Maserati cars. [caption id="attachment_1047" align="alignleft" width="300"] Peugeot Design Lab[/caption] PEUGEOT DESIGN LAB: The all-new ONYX sofa forms the heart of Peugeot Design Lab’s eye-catching and thought-provoking display of objects, sound and light at the Milan show. Intended as “a statement in pure form and materials”, the three-metre long seat takes its inspiration from the 2012 ONYX trio of superbike, supertrike and supercar. The supercar featured innovative bodywork made from carbon fibre combined with copper, and a cabin of felt and newspaper-derived wood. Designed as a static partner to that concept, the ONYX sofa has been built from hand-crafted Volvic volcanic lava stone that is seamlessly joined with hi-tech carbon fibre. [caption id="attachment_1051" align="alignleft" width="205"] Bentley Home[/caption] BENTLEY HOME: Designed and manufactured in collaboration with Luxury Living Group, one of Europe’s leading furniture makers, Bentley Motors’ complete Home Collection is introduced for the first time at Salon del Mobile 2014. Elegant, sophisticated and glamorous, the collection is inspired by the craftsmanship and materials that characterise the interiors of all Bentley models, and created by architect Carlo Colombo in collaboration with Daniele Ceccomori, Bentley’s head of product design – “defining a new ultra-luxury model for home and executive interiors”. [caption id="attachment_1035" align="alignright" width="300"] Stylish living in La Zagaleta[/caption] After gaining some home decoration inspiration from this year’s Salone in Milan, the next step will be to find a luxury property to put these new ideas and innovations intro practice. Located in one of Europe’s most sophisticated residential developments – La Zagaleta, overlooking Marbella in a picturesque mountain setting – this lavish villa is the perfect place to turn creative dreams into reality.
